I am currently learning Spanish from podcasts, such as Cody's Cuentos (www.codyscuentos.com). Great site! It has entertaining legends and fairy tales in spanish at all levels. The only problem is that the number of available podcasts are limited. Livemocha could create a forum for user-created podcasts--with the text available. We could create real-world dialogs between friends with a text to follow! How many times do you wish you could get subtitles from a conversation in a foreign language? I sure do! We could also read stories and poems that are in the public domain. The point is first to have entire ideas, dialogs, stories, etc., spoken by natives, available in audio, not just individual words. The second point is to make it downloadable into an mp3 file so that I can practice while away from the computer. I do this every day already with Cody's Cuentos, but I'm listening to the same thing over and over again. I need new material. Of course, trash would be created, but with a voting system, the good lessons would float to the top. This also requires some server power, so perhaps Livemocha could just start by somehow linking to Youtube or something similar existing website where folks could post their podcasts. There is also LibriVox.org, where users create podcasts of public domain books, but that is probably too advanced for most users.
